Issue 006: OpenAI and the tsunami of GPTs

AND: collaborative hyperspaces, become a virtual "Kamisama".

Hey crew👋 this is Woze - your AI & Immersive technology guide. Today we’re looking at 1) OpenAI and the tsunami of GPTs, 2) Collaborative hyperspaces 🛰and 3) becoming a virtual “Kamisama”🌍

Grab your boards, and let’s ride the today’s waves 🏄‍♂️

Without a doubt, ChatGPT and OpenAI, have been one of the prominent names in the media for the last 4 months. On March 1st, they released their ChatGPT and Whisper APIs to the public. It’s been something that us developers have been waiting for a while.

This means that developers now have the capabilities of using these APIs to create speech-to-text based applications powered by AI.

Last weekend, Pete Huang ran a 14 hour hackathon that took place literally across the OpenAI HQ in San Francisco. Over 250+ people attended and it resulted in 70 product demos!

We should expect a tsunami of ChatGPT and OpenAI-powered tools in the coming days, weeks and months being flooded to market.

From movies to anime, especially technology themed, we can see that collaborative spaces and digital assistants are concepts that are heavily pushed. The benefits of such concepts include improved workflows and the break down of siloes between mental models/imagery (how you “see” a topic in your mind), digital data, and information retrieval.

If you’re interested in reading the design paper for this project, read it here.

What are your thoughts about this, and collaborative virtual spaces? Let me know by responding to this email!

If you’re using ChatGPT and would love to export your conversation to Markdown format, check out my very own Chrome extension: GPT2Markdown.

Also, it’s about to reach 500 users without any active marketing 🥳!

But let’s continue.

It’s an irrefutable fact that “playing God” has been in human nature for as far back as we can trace our steps as a kin. It seems we’re taking one step further in that direction, as Masahiro shared his discovery of Versy.ai (they’re on waitlist mode if you’re interested).

From the demo, Versy seems to feature a similar look to any text-to-ai product out in the market. The difference is Versy converts that input prompt by a user, and turns it into 3D objects (I think?)! This seems like it could become a tools that many will come to know about should they play their cards well. The ability to build your own world (or BYOW - it sounds funny when you try to shout it out loud, like an alternate cat’s ‘meow‘), is one to keep an eye out for because users, like you and me, can create our own spaces like custom virtual meeting rooms or even escape rooms that will enhance the virtual experiences and take us a step closer to a “Ready, Player One” type of world.

Check out Versy here, if you want to join their waitlist.

👨‍💻 DEVELOPER’S CORNER

1/ Following up on issue #005, I developed Sketch Diffusion (https://sketchdiffusion.com) over the weekend. It’s not optimised for mobile + it doesn’t “work” publicly yet as I have not implemented some fixes. You can do scribbles though!

Screenshot of Sketch Diffusion

2/ I’ve also started the development of NotionDeck. I’ve only implemented the Login with Notion functionality so far. I’m pumped for this build though. I’ll be getting really playful with the micro-interactions for this project 🤹‍♂️

3/ I’ll be revamping my site, again, to something much simple yet creative.

Current portfolio

4/ I’m also working on quite a few developer tools throughout this week 🛠

5/ I’ll be launching my own digital products soon 🧰.

6/ Working on improving and sticking to my new content schedule - I’ve taken inspiration from one Dickie & Cole’s (Ship 30 for 30) latest email. Eventually, I’d like to build my own personal site for automating my content process across my blog, Twitter, Linkedin and Youtube.

7/ Continue writing the blogs I discussed in the last Developer’s Corner🗃.

8/ Create a new personal learning roadmap for the technologies I want to learn and master🧠.

9/ Draft some project tutorial ideas for my Youtube channel and record ASAP📹

10/ Working other areas of my business/agency ex. onboarding flow, branding, introducing a 13% referral rate on successful referred projects etc…

That’s it for today, crew 👋

See you next Wednesday :)
